About Adrian De Courcey
Growing up, I was the chatterbox kid at school who always asked why and rarely settled for the easy answers. My innate curiosity about the world, combined with a sense of adventure, enthusiasm and an insatiable desire for knowledge continues to shape my character and career decisions. My roles in consulting (KPMG) and strategy (Shell and Johnson & Johnson), working both in the UK and internationally, translates to broad experience across core functions from strategy, finance, legal, marketing, and procurement and recruitment. From early in my career, I learnt that business is fundamentally about people. I have led international teams, successfully negotiated a resolution to a long-running dispute with a critical business partner and navigated an acrimonious merger to ensure ambitious cost targets were achieved. An unexpected career pivot came about when both my parents fell ill. I returned to the UK from Switzerland to take on the management of a family business my father had started in the 1970s. As CEO, I led a restructuring of the company, operating in a mature and declining sector, to become an industry leader and the first company in the UK to operate fast-charging electric buses. Through adept use of technology, a change in strategy to enter new markets and optimised cost savings, the company's revenue increased by 177% from £6m to £17m and profit before tax increased by 1,281% from £87k to £1.2m over seven years. External recognition of this transformation included the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development and listed as one of the 'Top 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain' by the British Growth Fund for two consecutive years. I've experienced both success and setbacks in my career and have proven to be a resilient and empathetic leader who, even in difficult periods, can maintain a sense of perspective and motivate others.Beyond the career highlights, I'm someone who loves travelling, hiking, reading about history, politics and economics, mentoring and Pilates. The Pilates definitely needs a lot more practice! At heart, I'm a problem solver. Yes, I like problems. I pride myself on creative solutions. MBTI Type: INTJ/ENTJ - logical, analytical, confident, creative problem solvers. Please feel free to contact me via LinkedIn. I'm always open to a thought-provoking conversation over coffee or Zoom.
