Working at the Bridge Trust allows me the opportunity to help homeless people in need who may otherwise receive little, or more usually no help at all. We believe that all homeless people should be given the opportunity to have a home of their own and that's why we are here, to give people that opportunity. The Bridge Trust is dedicated to helping people out of homelessness and getting them back into living fulfilled and independent lives. We provide accommodation for 24 single, homeless adults from the Kent area and we give one to one support to each resident to help them achieve independence. Our accommodation takes the form of normal, residential housing - not a traditional hostel type building, as we believe that people need to re-engage with society and this is best achieved by living as part of their local community.

This role was based in a homeless hostel in London. My role was to step in as support worker when the full time workers took annual leave or became sick. Much of my role involved communication with the homeless men who lived in the hostel and organising events that could motivate them and give them hope for the future. During the olympics i liased with local churchs and we created a 2 week programme for the homeless men. Sports was our main attraction as we held various competitions but we also started an art class, live music evenings and a coffee area with a big screen to watch the olympics as a community. We had a church from Brazil join us for the 2 weeks and volunteered their time to help run the programme. For the opening ceremony we had over 100 people turn up to watch and eat together.
Kent
During my time at Rock UK i was lucky enough to gain many outdoor persuit qualifications. My role was to plan and implement paid sessions to the public. Sessions included anything from abseiling down our huge tower to shooting some arrows at our archery range to building rafts to 'save the barrel' from the center island. Groups ranged from youth groups to buisness team building days. I also 'co' provided the team building week for The Princes Trusts 12 week programme. This involved a whole week programme where team work and motivation were our main focus. Showing people that if you give new things a go, you might surprise youself at how successful you can be and you may also find hidden skills that you have.

I was lucky enough to move to Australia when i was 16 years old. I studied my A levels in Sydney (HSCs/ A level equivalent) and then started work. My first job was a cafe job. I then travelled and worked around Austraila doing jobs such as fruit picking, other farm work and the operation of ski lifts (During the short winter months).I spent most of my time in Sydney but have travelled up and down the eastern cost and down to the south. My visa eventually ran out and i started my new life in my home country where i started to volunteer for The Salvation Army before gaining part time paid work with The Salvation Army.
