In October 2020 I created ALRC as an independent risk management and insurance advisory to assist corporates, brokers, insurers, captive managers and to use my 30 years of experience and knowledge.I work as a freelance consultant to RQA (see below) providing industry insight and broad, current risk assessment to insurers.I am also currently offering services to corporates in the upstream energy sector who lack in-house risk management resources and need assistance in insurance procurement and strategy and advice/validation of their enterprise risk management structure, as well as advice on the captive management side.

As part of my role at ALRC, I am a freelance consultant to RQA assisting insurers to understand better the risk exposure faced in the upstream energy business from a broader, industry perspective, assessing not just operational HSE quality/integrity risks, but also the country, political, contractual-legal, financial, environmental context. Bringing 29 years of industry experience and knowledge to help underwriters analyse the realities of risks faced in the post Covid, lower oil for longer era, given the pressure on balance sheets since the oil price collapse of H2 2014 and the snowballing public shift away from hydrocarbons towards cleaner, sustainable energy sources (witnessed by the recent moves towards renewables by the majors such as BP and Shell).

For 15 years I ran the risk management team in the world's biggest oilfield contractor, responsible across 85 countries, 125,000 employees and $35bn of revenue. I was in charge of all insurance procurement, retention strategies and captive structures, plus reporting to executive mgt and claims mgt; I controlled relations with insurers and all presentations to leading underwriters. I managed captives in 3 domiciles, and set up Enterprise Risk Management across the Group: crisis/emergency mgt, risk mapping and business continuity plus reporting to the Board.I was invited to join many professional associations and insurer advisory boards/panels and spoke at seminars/conferences, brokers, insurers and broad industry associations.I managed complex claims, litigation/arbitration & negotiated liability & insurance clauses with major/national oil companies. I was heavily involved in M&A activity, due diligence & integration of insurance programs, creating $20 million of synergies in the last 2 major ($10bn+) acquisitions. Due to excellent long term relationships with insurers, I also created new insurance products and retention structures for new businesses and special projects as well as creating enduring partnerships with key insurers that benefited both parties - lowering risk for insurers and cost for the insured. In June 2020 I negotiated $2 million premium reduction in what was the hardest insurance market in 2 decades, which both insurers & brokers said was impossible.In 2014 the oil price collapsed by 70%, resulting in huge financial losses and lay offs across the industry. In 2020, having barely recovered, the oil price plummeted again due to over-supply, exacerbated by the public shift to renewables and the demand destruction caused by Covid19. The whole industry restructured and I retired early and decided to concentrate on sharing my knowledge and experience more broadly and personally.

Hired on the graduate training program to work in the marine department for Thos R. MIller which ran the world's biggest single marine liability insurance contract (reinsurance of the International P&I Group). I also created, broked and set up an insurance product for acquaculture in Ireland.
