The Operations Manager, Placements and Training Services supports the continual improvement andenhancement of the student placement function, developing and implementing high-quality systems, sourcing and managing industry relationships, and delivering projects and processes improvements across six colleges within the JCU.

Managing a dedicated team that collaborates with JCU academic staff and industry partners to identify high quality work-integrated learning and placement opportunities for students across three colleges including: College of Business Law and Governance, College of Science and Engineering and College of Arts, Society and Education.

James Cook University’s GP training program is delivered through the College of Medicine and Dentistry under contract to the Australian Government and is part of the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program.The AGPT program is a postgraduate vocational training program for medical graduates pursuing a career in General Practice. The program provides training towards fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).James Cook University aims to meet the needs of the diverse communities of our region, with a focus on rural, remote and underserved communities, and the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

My role was to manage high value customers and develop new business across the North Queensland region. Activity also included building and maintaining relationships with key people within industry associations, government and private sector. Industries included: Government, agriculture, mining, construction and transport.

After participating in the business as an investor and board member for more than 10 years, I had the opportunity to join the team in Cambodia for 12 months to assist with an overall business review. I was responsible for coaching local supervisors and managers, management of the recruitment, training and IT teams, and assisted in the development of the strategic vision and strategic plan for the business. An additional aspect of the role was to developed additional marketing programs including a significant increase in the use of social media, e-mail marketing, speaking at industry events and the development of group websites. The company has more than 100 staff, operating offices in both Cambodia and Myanmar.

I have worked with several recruitment and training companies both in Australia and Cambodia including ATS Recruitment Services, People Resourcing, TP human capital and Strategic Management Solutions. My roles have required me to Manage teams of 2 to 8 people. My main focus has been in business development and branch management. Recruitment experience includes working across many industries such as: civil construction, transport, engineering, mining and professional services.
