Adrian N. Pearson is a structural engineer and project manager for Black & Veatch’s civil works sector. Mr. Pearson holds a five-year integrated Master of Engineering (Civil) degree from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom and received the Edinburgh Award for conducting coastal engineering research at HR Wallingford in Oxford. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado and Texas, focusing on design and construction in hydropower, hydraulic structures, coastal defense, and maritime civil engineering.Prior to joining Black & Veatch, Mr. Pearson worked for seven years as a marine structural engineer for Moffatt & Nichol, a national leader in the marine and port facilities sector, with expertise in the inspection, design, and construction of riverine, coastal, port, and offshore structures. Key projects include serving as Owner’s Representative for the U.S. Navy during the construction of a new ammunition pier for expanded ordnance loading operations, waterfront buildings, dredging, breakwater, jetties, roads, utilities, and demolition at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California. Mr. Pearson was also a structural engineer for the marine facilities and storm surge protection walls for the Calcasieu Pass liquified natural gas (LNG) and Plaquemines LNG export terminals in Louisiana. He excels at collaborating with owners, engineers, scientists, and stakeholders to drive design, resolve construction issues, and deliver projects.Mr. Pearson is a committee member for the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) new Design Standards for Piers and Wharves. In 2020, he received the De Paepe-Willems Award from The World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC) which recognizes young professionals who have authored outstanding papers related to design, maintenance and construction of inland and maritime waterways, ports, and coastal areas. He is also a committee member for PIANC’s Working Group 231, developing a new standard for mooring bollards & hooks.
