Managed the merger of Sandvik Zimbabwe and Tamrock Zimbabwe in 1999 and was then appointed as Managing Director of the consolidated company. The team developed and operated a highly profitable Company in an extremely volatile inflationary market in Zimbabwe where the Government’s fiscal regulations were onerous and hostile to foreign investors. There was a staff compliment of about 125 people with a turnover of approx. ZAR 300 mill. A member of a small team that developed and implemented a marketing strategy for the introduction of the first low profile underground drills, loaders and bolters into the platinum mines in Zimbabwe With the Zimbabwe management team, developed, marketed and implemented one of the first performance contracts in the African Region using Sandvik Equipment at Zimplats. By the end of 2003 there were approx. 80 Sandvik employees on this contract. This has proved to be the foundation and sustainability of the current Sandvik Zimbabwe operation Reporting to the Regional President and responsible for:Ensuring the long-term sustainable growth and profitability of the Zimbabwean subsidiary.
