Project title: Is palmitoylation an important regulator of vGLUT1 and vGLUT2 proteins?vGLUT1/2 proteins are essential for normal neuronal function and have recently been linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. I have mutated known palmitoylation sites in vGLUT1/2 and used a novel click chemistry method to assess the effect of these mutations on palmitoylation. I have also checked the localization of mutants in HEK293 cells using Green Fluorescence Protein/ antibody staining and confocal microscopy.

The Vertically Integrated Project Polarised Growth is a collaborative work between microbiologists and engineers aiming to tackle the increasing problem of antibiotic resistance. The antibiotic-producing bacteria were processed by a Hyperspectral- Imaging (HSI) system in order to develop suitable filtering algorithms for quicker identification. This project allowed me to gain a better understanding of how bacteria develop the resistance to antimicrobials and toughed me the importance of cross-discipline research.
