About Adrian Dongus

The best way to described me is as a mission driven professional and a true self-starter with a strong international orientation. At the core of my professional ambition is the desire and conviction to contribute to the structural solutions for today’s biggest problems. Whether as a founder, leader or team member I have been part of organizations and missions that aim to strike at the root cause of challenges faced by millions of people. The nature of the roles I have occupied allowed me to develop a vast plethora skills, ranging from building and leading cross-continental teams, developing and executing go-to market strategies, managing investor relationships and developing global partnerships, to mobilizing and convening stakeholders to advocate for groundbreaking policies. These skills have proven crucial in successfully navigating the challenging and fast changing environment of start-ups and scale-ups in Europe and Africa. These experiences have led to my conviction that (social) entrepreneurship is a key driver to addressing today’s biggest problems, which can only flourish when Impact investors and governments provide access to early stage capital and put in place supportive regulation.Industries: FMCG l NGO l Humanitarian l Energy l Automotive l Financial Services Areas of Expertise: Entrepreneurship l Social Enterprise l Management l Business Development l Lobby & Advocacy l Public-Private Partnerships Drivers: Social Enterprise l Women Empowerment l Sustainable Development l Climate Action

  • Vancharles
    Co-Founder & Owner
    Vancharles Aug 2014 - Aug 2015
    Utrecht Area, Netherlands
A family recipe passed down from generation to generation forms the basis of this start-up in the Dutch food sector. Together with my co-founders, I set out to connect producers, restaurateurs and consumers to a piece of culinary heritage and offer a response to the industrialized version of the traditional Dutch Croquette. In an effort to secure to best quality ingredients from within the region, I set up a network of local suppliers including a traditional windmill operating since the 1750’s, an organic dairy farm and a specialized farmer who takes great care in breeding a special breed of French Limousin cows. By developing a coherent narrative across all marketing platforms that lives up to the origin story of the recipe and the suppliers we work with, consumers quickly took a liking to the brand and product. While leading business development among restaurateurs, hotels, bars and retailers, I initially focused on venues with an iconic status in the area to further strengthened the brand’s identity as a local product. This enabled the company to rapidly scale the points of sale within a matter of months.Simultaneously, we worked as a team on expanding production capacity as demand increased. This turned out be delicate work of balancing automation and manual labor without exceeding the investment budget. In the 14 months of establishing VanCharles I learned how an idea can transform into a thriving business in a matter of months and what it takes to navigate the demanding and fast paced environment of a startup.
