I am currently a postbaccalaureate research intern with the Engelhardt lab at University of Iowa working under Dr. Feng Yuan, exploring the genetic basis and targeted therapies for cystic fibrosis using ferret models.I recent graduated from Grinnell College with a major in Biology, and partook in directed independent research in a plant molecular biology lab. During the course of my undergraduate studies, I also received the opportunities to work as a research assistant at the Ohio State University in the Strange lab, focusing on insect husbandry and bumblebee field genotyping, and with the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, where I worked on development of a high-throughput plant phenotyping software. My research from the year prior, on epigenetic mechanisms in maize, placed 8th overall at the 2020 Regeneron Science Talent Search. I am passionate about the sciences, teaching and mentoring students, and community service, and hope to balance my career between my love of research and my enthusiasm for STEM education. I worked as a teaching assistant for introductory biology and GIS students at Grinnell, and got the chance to work with an international youth journal to encourage involvement in science and conservation. I have also routinely sat on review boards with the Society for Science and the Public, providing recommendations on funding for underfinanced schools and organizations involved in STEM outreach.
