My final Naval Assignment was as a Divisional Manager at the Defence School for Marine Engineering ( DSMarE ). My role at DSMarE was to manage, guide, motivate, and advise up and coming new recruits through their 8-month long Phase 2 training before being assigned to their first sea going ships. I was the direct link between the Divisional Officers and the new recruits, often having to liaise between both with regards to training plans, leave periods and students being downgraded due to health related and personal family issues. I constantly attended and played my part in weekly meetings involving the entire Chain of Command all the way up to the Captain, exposing myself to the in-depth aspects of Management at all different levels which further increased my experience and understanding of the processes that go in to being successful and respected in a managerial role.

Following the LET course, I was assigned as the Deputy Section head for HVAC and Chilled Water onboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth in my new role of Leading Hand. This was my first managerial role which involved assisting the Section Head in organising manpower, ordering equipment and stores, taking the lead role in planned and reactive maintenance together with being a point of contact with contractors and suppliers that are used by the RN. Whilst on-board HMS Queen Elizabeth we went on several overseas trips including Norway and Sweden, which involved working and communicating with contractors from several foreign ports, improving my people skills whilst also allowing myself to understand different managerial processes used all over the world.

During my 18-month promotional training course at HMS Sultan, I completed the initial year of common course doing comprising of a variety of classes studying in Marine Auxiliary systems, Control Logic systems, High Voltage and Low voltage systems as well as undertaking a 4 week Leadership course incorporating valuable skills and team building exercises to enhance our understanding of the role of Leading Hand. On completion of common course, I undertook a 6 month specialisation course conducting in in-depth training in the M3 sector on ship which involves HVAC and chilled water plants, Fresh Water RO plants, Fuel pumps and Membrane Bio reactors. In addition to this, I completed 2 months of Welding, Pipe bending and brazing familiarisation courses

Due to COVID restrictions at the time, I was assigned to a Civilian workforce working at the Joint Services Adventurous Sail Training Centre ( JSASTC ).Working alongside ex-royal navy engineers and qualified marine engineers, I assisted in the maintenance, refit and overhaul of some of the 32 different types of yachts that are docked there. This work ranged from, but was not limited to: engine overhauls, shaft line installations, propeller alignment and rudder stock maintenance

I was assigned to HMS Queen Elizabeth and during this period I gained experience working in multiple sections such as HV/LV Distribution, HVAC, Fresh Water, HP/LP Air and Lift operations.I gained vital watchkeeping experience on running Propulsion and Auxiliary systems as well as getting selected for promotion after passing my Promotion Board

Completed the Engineering Technician Initial Career Course ( ETICC ) at HMS Sultan gaining a level 2 Diploma in Marine Engineering.
