During a brief Freelance spell, I wrote about design trends and profiled an artist for T Magazine, interviewed Kiki Smith about an upcoming show for T-List, and obsessed over New Yorkers reusing Fresh Direct bags for the Style section of the New York Times. .

I oversee a team of talented writers who story edit documentary packages, copy-edit subtitles, and concoct creative news scripts for a nightly news show on VICE TV. In this role, I edit scripts, write monologues for the show's host, set style rules, dream up story ideas, and help define the show's distinctive voice. But I also stick to the everyday tasks of writing sentences and working with talent to get pieces recorded and on the internet or the airwaves. Nominated for a 2019 News & Doc Emmy for my work editing our coverage of protests in Hong Kong, and for a 2020 Emmy as part of the team behind our nightly show. I write scripts for the nightly news program Vice News Tonight on HBO, helping producers, editors, and correspondents create concise and compelling mini-documentaries on a zany deadline. I also pitch and report my own ideas, direct and record voice talent, copy edit on-screen text, hash out ideas with designers, and fill in occasionally as head writer.

I survived a crash course in the most interesting presidential election in my lifetime, writing for the show “State of the Race” with Kate Bolduan and “I-Desk” with Robyn Curnow. To write scripts for television on a fast-paced deadline, I honed skills in research, fact-checking, and style. And I picked up a new appreciation for visual storytelling -- tracking down videos and timing scripts to image. My knowledge of local U.S. politics & the 2016 campaign helped position me to cover the incoming administration, and I was tapped to write year-end scripts that summed up the political conversation in 2017.

I covered politics in a New Orleans suburb and wrote feature stories on greater New Orleans issues. I luxuriated in academia, wrote a novel, and continued to freelance for The New York Times, MTV, The New Republic, The Awl, and more.

I wrote for the newspaper's Metro section and its City Room blog on everything from the scene in Stonewall on the night that same-sex marriage passed to the experience of having my blood sucked by a leech.

I mused on all things global pop culture -- from K-Pop to M.I.A. -- at a now-dead MTV World vertical (MTV IGGY), where I posted five to twelve times per day as well as wrote copy for other aspects of the site, penned concert reviews, and rounded-up the year's best in music.

I learned boots-on-the-ground journalism by writing a handful of articles per week for the wonderfully old-school Gazette, North Brooklyn's oldest newsweekly. It was a fascinating area to report on and an interesting time to be there: a recession-era culture clash between incoming artists and the working immigrants they displaced.

Wanderlust took me to mainland China where I took Mandarin and freelanced for The Washington Post, the New Republic, and Time Magazine as well as worked a few odd jobs copy-writing and speed-typing. With two expat friends -- I produced a podcast about expat culture clashes in the city for the alt-weekly, The Beijinger.

I wrote on everything from Hong Kong law enforcement's war with young designers on the use of the city's triad history to a scene piece on the city's first East/West bilingual comedy club, as well as extensively fact-checked the features of reporters spread throughout Asia.

Worked with fabulous editors at the Style desk, who taught me how to report and structure articles. I wrote on daily and weekly deadlines on everything from the life of a 3D street artist to a profile of D.C.'s first female real-estate tycoon.
