In order toirradiate the microtarget, optical levitation traps are designed to load, confine and trapthe target in a small localised region, completely isolated from the surrounding andwithout any physical connection by counterbalancing gravity by photon momentumtransfer from a “low power” continuous wave laser. We present an optical levitationtrap with the largest trapping distance ever reported of ~8.5 𝑐𝑚 and FWHM spot sizeof ~3.65 𝜇𝑚 including the design of a particle tracking system based on a 1-D PSD sensorfor further development of a feedback control unit.The thesis was presented in the UK Optical Design Meeting that took place at Imperial College of London in September 2019. This can be realized by introducing adapted scattering nanostructures within the thin film stacks, ideally with a large-area compatible process. In this thesis, we propose to achieve this using self-assembled nanostructures obtained by the polymer blend lithography (PBL) technique. First tests performed at the Light Technology Institute demonstrated the relevancy of this approach by successfully increasing the efficiency of solar cells and OLEDs. In order to go beyond this proof-of-concept, it is now desired to optimize the scattering properties of the nanostructures by modifying their fabrication route, and to develop new strategies to facilitate their integration in devices. Stay at the research center IBEC in Barcelona as an intern in the group of Smart Nano- bio devices lead by Samuel Sanchez studying self-propelled particles in complex environments. During few weeks I studied the velocity dependence of Janus particles under different concentrations of H2O2 using an optical microscopy and high resolution camera to record videos and track the nanoparticles position.
