CurrentAfter 15 years of designing beautiful spaces and teaching design principles to decorators and clients, I saw a distinct need in the interior furnishings marketplace. A client came to me seeking advice on healthy furnishings for her home that would not make her sick. She recently had been diagnosed with Lyme Disease and her symptoms included respiratory sensitivity. She asked me to help her find a sofa that didn't contain harmful flame retardant chemicals that would make her go into respiratory distress. Helping this client was a true awakening. As I searched to find furnishings to help my suffering friend, I saw the very serious need for healthy home furnishings.I learned that products that were labeled as “green,” “all natural” or “eco-friendly” very often were not. They still contained chemicals, formaldehyde, or additives that leaked toxins into the air. My eyes were opened at the very serious damage this was causing to people’s health. Through diligent research, I discovered numerous healthy furnishing options that were available but many consumers were unaware of their existence. Now through my new business, House Doctor, my mission is to inform consumers, whether they are currently sick or not, to alleviate and prevent introducing products into their home that could be making them sick.
