About Adrian Herrera
I am a recent graduate of Trinity University with a B.S. degree in Engineering Science. My interdisciplinary education is concentrated in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, complemented by a fundamental background in Electrical and Chemical Engineering.I have extensive experience in innovative research focused on mechanical design and testing, dedicating my undergraduate summers working for Trinity University's Engineering Department and the University of Texas at San Antonio's Hypersonics Laboratory. After graduating this May, I have been interning as a Manufacturing Engineer for Forma, a Tier 1 supplier to Toyota, responsible for fully assembling 2025 Toyota Tundra truck beds for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas (TMMTX), their San Antonio plant. From taking apart and repairing old trucks in my backyard to fixing up my first car, I developed a deep passion for vehicles. These hands-on experiences broadened my understanding of auto mechanics and electrical-systems and inspired me to pursue an engineering career in the manufacturing industry.I take pride in my problem-solving abilities and interpersonal communication, and I am committed to continuously developing as a leader, making me a promising engineer. I am always looking for ways to grow and learn, currently studying to obtain my EIT certification and actively seeking full-time engineering employment opportunities in EV or aerospace sectors, where I can contribute my passions and skills to represent an employer with optimistic causes and solutions.

Manufacturing Engineer
Current• Supporting our engineering team with process implementation/improvement, development, and control of our assembly line at TMMTX.• Conducting time studies and process trials to update Process Element Sheets (PES) and Element Instruction Sheets (EIS), ensuring lean manufacturing principles are integrated into our operations.• Currently designing our assembly's material handler routes on Excel and utilizing AutoCAD, based on frequency calculations, cycle times, and travel distances.• Compiled a list of all parts installed per pitch prior to the September 2024 launch of the 2025 Tundra, and created a Bill of Materials (BOM) for new flow racks.• Designed and led the construction of 20 lineside gravity flow racks for 13 assembly stations as part of the 561D launch. Analyzed packaging dimensions, QPC usage, parts installed per unit, CTD, NQC, daily production, and material requirements to align with capacity, consumption, and replenishment needs. • Using SolidWorks, I devised a tension-based sticker dispenser for grommet patches and warning labels as a 'kaizen' effort to improve workflow, minimize waste, and create a more user-friendly process for Team Members.
University Tour Guide
As a Tour Guide, I had the unique opportunity to inspire admitted and prospective students by sharing the transformative experiences I had at Trinity University and the invaluable opportunities it offered me as a first-generation college student. In this role, I highlighted the historical significance of our campus, illustrated the dynamic growth fueled by student contributions, and conveyed Trinity’s core values of enduring excellence, inclusion, and perpetual discovery. Through my storytelling, I not only showcased the university's distinctive qualities but also played a key role in shaping the decisions of future students, helping them envision how Trinity could be the perfect fit for their own academic journey.
Mechanical Engineering Student Researcher
• Worked in a research lab to redesign the driving mechanism of a space rover for Trinity University’s engineering department• Created two small-scale models of the rover and measured their performance to redesign the driving mechanism of the full-scale front-wheel drive rover into a pulley and belt drive system• Resulted in a successful four-wheeled vehicle that drove on relatively flat ground and held up its own and additional weight with the comprehensive goal of reducing the radial load on the motor
Trinity University Shpe Chapter Co-Founder & President
• Founded SHPE chapter to provide a more inclusive community for Hispanic STEM students enrolled at Trinity, allowing them to become a part of an extensive engineering/STEM organization that better represents them and provides access to resources and a professional support network through monthly meetings and professional panels.• As former President (Fall 2023 - Spring 2024) and Treasurer (Fall 2022 - Spring 2023) I served as our chapter spokesperson, managed executive board tasks, revised budgets and flyers, and organized guest speaker events and socials.
Nasa L’Space Mission Concept Academy (Mca) Scholar
• Worked remotely as a Thermal/Mechanical Engineer in collaboration with a team of other engineering students across the nation to develop a mission concept for Saturn's moon, Enceladus. For this mission, we designed an orbiter spacecraft (microsatellite with retractable solar panels), modeled mission components, and devised space exploration techniques to deepen our understanding of Enceladus' plumes, potential habitability, and astrobiological significance.• Conducted extensive research and produced a comprehensive Preliminary Design Review (PDR) report for NASA experts to evaluate.• Implemented a passive thermal management system (TMS) in collaboration with comms/data handling and power subsystems, ensuring strict technical specifications and safety standards to maintain the spacecraft's temperature when launched and in polar orbit.
Hypersonics Visiting Undergraduate Research Assistant
• Leveraged cutting-edge technology in the Hypersonics lab, including the Mach 7 Ludwieg Tube Wind Tunnel, to advance aerodynamics research and support the development of next-generation high-speed systems• Conducted free-flight testing, including the design and production of an instrumented 3D-printed sphere and the evaluation of various catch mechanism iterations, leading to the acquisition of crucial acceleration and rate of rotation data• Designed mounts and stands in SolidWorks to horizontally realign an electromechanical actuated pitot probe traversal system, addressing the uniformity of flow across the test section for accurate wind tunnel data collection
Esperanza Peace & Justice Center Summer Intern
• Supported housing justice and anti-gentrification initiatives by creating flyers and infographics for tenant coalitions, presenting speeches for the city’s housing commission and city council hearings, and tabling events• Co-hosted a new podcast show for Esperanza’s radio and interviewed guest speakers about the housing crisis and the ban on evictions• Sampled and visited multiple historic properties in San Antonio’s Cattleman Square District, and helped a research team gather archives on those properties• Designed a digital story map to address the importance of preserving historic buildings to tell their stories and repurpose them for affordable community use
