I work with Metropolitan’s new Office of Sustainability, Resilience, and Innovation (SRI) on an aggressive agenda to reduce our industry’s carbon footprint as well as strengthen our resiliency to climate change. The SRI Office is working across the organization to develop strategies, programs and policies to address many environmental concerns including energy use, conservation, pollution, environmental justice, and climate resilience. I support our organization’s adoption of Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Standards and renewable energy investments to complement our Climate Action Plan as well as support our emergency operations programs. I lead the development of Metropolitan's Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) reporting program, Environmental Justice Policy and our Climate Vulnerability Risk Assessments.

I lead the collaborative effort to update Metropolitan’s long-term Workforce Development Plan to focus on addressing Water Infrastructure Investments, Workplace Equity, and the Modern Workplace Landscape. This plan prioritizes a regional approach to workforce development through strategic partnerships and long-term outcomes. I'm a cofounder of the Water Energy Education Alliance (WEEA), member of the IE Works Leadership Committee and the Ventura Clean/Green Board. I'm excited to be a Co-Lead for the California Environmental Literacy Initiative's Green Career Education Innovation Hub working to develop a "California Roadmap to Educating for a Green and Blue Economy" to guide equitable access for K-16 students to high-growth, living-wage green careers. Member of the Water Research Foundation’s Project Advisory Committee for a “DE&I Best Practices for the Water Sector Workforce” study. Led the development and implementation of Metropolitan's Water Cybersecurity Internship program in partnership with Tomorrow's Talent. Partnered with the California Municipal Utilities Association on a $4 million award of a California High Roads Training Partnership grant.

Adrian Hightower manages Metropolitan's Education Unit and is responsible for its annual budget and staff of six full-time employees comprised of professionals, paraprofessionals and administrative support. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of all water related education outreach programs, events and curriculum. These programs serve students and teachers in pre-K, TK, K-12, college, vocational, university and adult education endeavors throughout Southern California. This includes oversight of Metropolitan's Diamond Valley Lake (DVL) Education Program and supervision of the DVL Docent Program. Adrian works closely with Metropolitan's member agencies to conduct water related education programming throughout our six county service area. The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 water agencies and cities, serving 19 million people in six counties.
