Serving in support of planning a for operations and modernisation of Australian Army

I transferred to the reserve after serving in the regular Army. Since then I have served in HQ FORCOMD, HQ 2 Div and HQ 8 Bde.I am currently posted as the CO 8 ER, providing 8 Bde with the Combat and Construction Engineering resources to 'live, move and fight' on the battlefield. 8 ER has a long and distinguished history and I am privileged to have the opportunity to lead a team of highly professional and motivated Sappers.

Sonder is a phone application based service which provides vulnerable clients with an on demand support network. When the command centre requires a physical attendance, Emergency Liaison Officers deploy to site within 20 minutes to provide support in location. A great service started by three former Army members.

I was lucky enough to be selected to assist in one of three major programs underway that will significantly improve passenger safety and fleet efficiency on the rail system. Automatic Train Protection (ATP) initially provides drivers with accurate information on their location and status, but will ultimately adjust train speed and braking to avoid dangerous situations. The task is complex but is modelled on the European Train Control system (ETCS) and will employ the most reliable and safe system that meets the needs of NSW clients. I work with a project team of over 80 people and focus on the development of Level 2 (L2) performance, which integrates continuous data transition via GSM-R radio and is enhanced by further trackside and onboard equipment. A pilot scheme is being developed to trial L2 capability which will allow the formulation of detailed plans to roll out across NSW. An exciting job that will save lives and increase system capacity. The task was contractually complex but was further complicated by political and public monies factors such as the 2013 election. Serco does an outstanding job in running the many national immigration centres in a humane and professional manner, at the same time as trying to cater for increasing numbers of arrivals, managing the departure of those immigrants who are not eligible to remain in Australia and the medium to long term development issues such as the massive Villawood redevelopment. I learned a great deal about the intricacies that Government and hence Serco face and I congratulate all stakeholders on the professional and constructive manner with which they go about their job with little acknowledgement of the results that they achieve.
