Being part of a B2B manufacturing, construction and technology PR Company is tremendously rewarding. Since 1987, it has been inspiring to work within sectors like aerospace, automotive, engineering, IT and more. Thanks to our clients, I have seen R&D projects become reality and then have had the privilege to be part of their marketing teams informing the world. A great place to be now, but the start needed a little help.In 1985, with a school friend, I founded a computer consultancy specialising in the customisation of marketing and financial packages. As two out of college and out of work young adults of little means, we applied for and were thankful to get grant funding from the Prince’s Trust to buy our first computer. IT projects for league football clubs, petrol retailers and the Manchester Business School, provided a wealth of hands-on business experience. Though desktop office computers were in their infancy, we did help many businesses take their first IT steps.One such business was a technology PR company, Marketing Workshop. Prior to being in business, I had been a volunteer PR person for a local campaigning cause and had enjoyed working with local and national media. I found that my technology experience and volunteer PR background combined easily with the writing skills for technical B2B public relations.I began working with Marketing Workshop, where my ability to understand and translate high technology language to suit the intended audience made a positive and growing contribution to the business. This was formally recognised by forming a partnership in 1987 and name change to Ainsworth Maguire.From building our PCs and network, through software implementation, and now migrating to the cloud, I retain my keen sense of technology and apply these skills to the benefit of our clients in PR. Indeed with the internet, mobile communications, social media, digital photography and video, it seems my skills are more relevant to technology PR than ever.
