Gas Networks Ireland own and operate the natural gas network in Ireland. As Innovation and Research Manager, I led aspects of a strategy refresh for Gas Networks Ireland and Irish Water, liaising with senior leaders in both companies to undertake scenario planning and financial modelling of various future scenarios. ◼️ Led organisational transformation in order to handle disruption across the sector, successfully delivering 15 innovation calls facilitating €multi-million cost savings over 3-yrs from a zero base. ◼️ Developed 6-themed prioritization strategy (operational efficiency, green agenda, safety, digital future, future of work and future of gas) and held workshops with key business stakeholders to compile comprehensive list of innovation challenges. ◼️ Secured discounted membership to Energy Innovation Centre, a UK-based innovations hub for the utility sector, becoming their first non-UK member. ◼️ Instrumental in development of novel patent-pending tool for gas industry use, projected to deliver significant recurring savings p.a. and to enable safer, more sustainable client-driven working practices. ◼️ Led innovation-driven water leakage reduction project, introducing innovative ‘Internet of Things’ technology to enable swifter leak identification, with €multi-million savings. ◼️ Organised and led 2-day innovation highlight in Dublin, offering innovators an opportunity to showcase their innovations to stakeholders in Irish Water.◼️ Instrumental in creation of accessible narrative scrutinising affordability of decarbonisation in Ireland, directly contributing to report on the future of gas as a fuel for the pathway to full decarbonisation.◼️ Embedded an enduring culture of innovation, enabling Irish Water to become members of a global forum on innovation in the water sector, collaborating with companies across Europe to resolve common issues.
