Bergens Tidende is a regional newspaper on the Norwegian west coast. I was embedded in various editorial and product teams. Ad-hoc analyses (Snowflake & RMarkdown), maintaining and developing new pipelines (Docker, Flask, Airflow), improving news recommender systems (Kafka, Bayesian AB-testing) and innovative dashboards (Dash, AWS Lambda) were some of my responsibilities.

At QuantSpark, I was involved in building data tools to support strategic decision making in the private (retail, private equity) and public sector (location intelligence, public relations). Analysing large amounts of data (PySpark), communicating key insights to a non-technical audience (Tableau, Plotly) and developing interactive web-applications (full-stack: EC2, Flask, React) were some of my tasks.

In a personally initiated project we were investigating the influence of multidisciplinarity in scientific teams on paper success with data from Thomson Reuters' citation database "Web of Science". Methodologically and theoretically this work was closely related to network science. Because of the heavy data load I was also challenged computationally (parallelization in Python).

Initially, my work was kicked off with a research project where we were trying to relate entrepreneurial success to the time focus of start-up founders with Twitter data. Text-processing using Python and data analyses with R were at the heart of my involvement with this project. Over time I've been part of numerous other projects mainly mining and processing data or programming online surveys/experiments (Qualtrics/JavaScript/jsPsych) and occasionally I was also doing literature research.

My main contributions at the Centre for Chronobiology were (1) implementing a new algorithm for slow-eye-movement detection in electrooculography data through establishing a new cooperation with another lab and (2) developing a pilot study investigating visual cognition using binocular rivalry. Both tasks were conducted using Matlab.

Tamedia is the second biggest media group in Switzerland owning many newspapers, magazines and online-enterprises. During my 6 Months internship after I had received my Bachelors Degree, I gained an insight into market research, the publishing and advertising industries. Tasks included analyzing and visualizing of survey data as well as processing monthly statistics for the management, mostly in Excel, PowerPoint and Visual Basic.
