Head Of Public Affairs & Communications
London, United Kingdom
Key AchievementsDuring my time as Head of Public Affairs and Communications, achievements included:Engagement• Organised parliamentary receptions and introduced smaller policy dinners at Westminster private dining restaurants to enable more detailed discussion of leading MPs.Working with Colleagues and Members• Worked with colleagues across the NFRN to keep our members engaged with our work, ensuring they were up to date with regulatory changes and, for example, those in the vicinity of terrorist attacks in London and Manchester were supported in the aftermath of the events.• Ran a yearlong information campaign to inform members of the requirements of the tobacco display ban. Using articles in the members magazine, leaflets, the Federation’s website, and social media, along with in person briefings to get the message across. A survey by trading standards, conducted shortly after the ban came into effect, recognised newsagents as the most compliant retail group.• Worked with the Operations team to survey members about their businesses and their experiences and challenges as retailers. The data collected fed into our policy and consultation responses.• Kept members and member facing staff informed of lockdown operating requirements during Covid, together with details of the financial assistance that the governments across the UK and Ireland were making available. Engaging Communications• Supported our engagement by producing high quality policy documents, both nationally and for the devolved countries.• With regulatory updates and briefings and detail of our campaigning, the political engagement team were the largest contributor of editorial content for each month’s members magazine.• I took the opportunity of a change in the NFRN’s logo to ensure a common branding across all policy and related documents, improving the professional image of the NFRN.
