I have enjoyed a varied technical career starting out as a software engineer in the avionics industry and progressing to a solutions and data architect and manager within financial services. In 2017 I moved into the non-corporate sector to embark on the next (and last!) phase of my career. My principal technical skills now are as a data architect, modeller and programmer (primarily in the Microsoft technology stack), although I remain interested in various web technologies and their associated API-driven integrations. As a data professional I passionately believe that our data tells us about our potential. Although we can sit down and make decisions about our ambitions, doing so based on informed analysis of our (and/or our industry's) data is what helps us pick the strategies that deliver.Overseeing all this, embracing a culture for data quality and control via good governance and technically robust systems is what makes a real data professional.
