Contracted independent chair of the council of voluntary sector children's agencies in the London Borough of Islington: convening and chairing meetings, developing strategic plans and coordinating joint activities and events.

Adrian was the founding director of Play England, conceiving and developing the plans for the organisation after securing a development grant from the Big Lottery Fund in 2005. He then drafted a major lottery bid, winning a £15m grant over five years to grow the organisation and to play the key role in supporting both the £155m Children's Play lottery.

Adrian was the last Director of the Children's Play Council, a national alliance of children's play organisations and play service providers under the aegis of the National Children's Bureau, before it evolved into Play England with the injection of a major lottery grant in 2006.

Charing this influential national alliance of voluntary and statutory children's play organisations, formulating shared policy objectives and overseeing the research and campaigning work of the Council's staff team.

Adrian was the first appointment to this new London-wide play charity. Under Adrian's leadership from 1998-2004 London Play secured a major policy for children's play from the London Mayor, built a number of successful independent play associations in the London Boroughs and developed the gold standard for quality assurance in staffed play provision in.
