Since Autumn 2023, I am one of the volunteers providing 1-2-1 IT support to library visitors on any topic that help is requested for, particularly in support of members of the Work Club. I believe that there is an increasing need for this support, so I have been doing personal R&D into AI options to help those who need advice out of hours. This is an ongoing project, carried out as time permits, which I am hopeful will lead to other ways to provide general Digital Skills advice and assistance for library visitors and others.

I currently use a mixture of standard software products (MS Office, SharePoint), the IT infrastructure provided to all staff and external websites/tools to provide bespoke solutions with the goal of providing smart automation to meet our organisational needs and save my colleagues time. These have ranged from small pieces of work to overseeing the development of our Intranet in 2010 which has grown ever since and provide somewhere for all staff to collaborate and share information.Over 25 years of experience in developing applications and databases using a variety of software products has enabled me to have productive relationships with my customers so that I can understand their needs along with my knowledge of my current software tools to deliver products that are effective and fit for purpose, often exceeding their expectations.

Providing application development skills to production engineers.Co-developed and supported the Bacton Plant gas allocation system from 1987 to 2003 (while at Phillips Petroleum) and subsequently as a consultant. The gas ran out in early 2011 but the database and programs could have gone on running longer.
