Chief Executive Officer
CurrentMicrima has been innovating and developing the use of wholly novel Radiowave technology, for use in the detection of breast cancer for the best part of 20 years. I joined Micrima in January 2021 with a remit to commercial the businesses 7th generation MARIA breast imaging device. In the summer of 2022 I led the leadership team, board and investors through a change of direction where we looked to utilise this 20 years of technology development in different way. Focusing on measurement of breast tissue properties (instead of imaging) enabled the device to be significantly reduced in size and become something portable that can be used inside and outside of a hospital environment. What's more it provides pre-imaging breast tissue measurement information that can not only help clinicians chose the best method of detecting a patients breast cancer but also help with inclusion of breast tissue properties in existing breast cancer risk models. The new device does uses non ionising radio waves and not x-rays and as such can be used in pretty much any location and by any user (subject to around 30 minutes of training). This opens up the ability for the device to be used in community settings and even operated by members of the community, where this is preferable. All of these factors help to unlock the potential of personalised breast cancer pathways that drive screening to be based on individual risk (and not general statistics) and also enable patients to have the most appropriate imaging technique, to detect cancer in their particular breast tissue type, first time.At Micrima I have the honour and pleasure to lead a team of incredible people all focused on helping clinicians to detect more instances of breast cancer earlier. I set business strategy by trying to align our technological sweet spots with market problems and work hard to build relationships with the market, teams and investors that are all key to ensuring a successful strategy and plan.
