-Provide general legal advice regarding all matters impacting the company.-Act as Ethics Officer for the company. Oversee training for essential standards of business conduct; including code of business ethics, anti harassment policy, electronic media code of conduct, and insider trading policy.-Investigate; report on and make recommendations regarding alleged violations company policy and procedure and code of business ethics.- Oversee Consumer Affairs Department/ Provide advice and direction regarding complaints and company response.Oversee Compliance Department/ Provide advice and direction regarding applicability of State regulations. -Oversee Field Compliance Audit Function.-Implement Company Compliance Standards for the Field and - Oversee Market Conduct enforcement.- Monitor Special Compliance Matters such as Anti-Money-laundering Program, GLBA compliance, and Fraud Training. - Represent the Company in charges of discrimination filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.- Represent the Company’s interests in meetings, mediations, etc with insurance department regulators and attorneys. as well as in market conduct examinations. - Present Legal and Compliance Training to Home Office and Field employees.- Coordinate company market conduct examinations with state regulators.

-Manage all legal matters on behalf of the Kansas City Life family of companies, and provide legal support for all departments. -Employment Counsel for Kansas City Life family of companies. Work with Human Resources on labor, employments and employee benefit issues.-Monitor compliance with federal and state labor and employment laws. Direct Company compliance with the Patriot Act.-Supervise commercial mortgage loan transactions. Assist Investments Department with legal aspects of real estate transactions.-Draft, review and approve company contracts. Coordinate with outside counsel to maintain rights to company intellectual property, and adhere to Intellectual Property laws.
