Technology is changing the way that companies interact with their customers in an increasing diverse fashion. Channels are springing up and then getting consumed into multi-channel or, even better, omni-channel experiences. Customers are increasingly looking at technology leaders and asking why every single company and interaction can't be relevant, instantaneous and via a desired medium.Since starting my working life at Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) more than 20 years ago, I have always been fascinated by the interaction of customers with companies via technology, and my working life has taken me on a journey from the "birth" (or should I say "growing up") of the internet through client/server technology, ERP, CRM, BPM/BPMN and cloud technology. Today I am constantly striving to use this knowledge and experience to streamline the way that customers and consumers interact with their service and product providers.This journey of discovery has recently taken me into areas such as robotics and more recently machine learning, where I have gained both academic as well as practical experience and, yet another technology concept to add to the growing list of useful additions to the customer interaction story.Major projects that I have been involved in, such as the Lloyds Banking Group Simplification programme (http://www.lloydsbankinggroup.com/globalassets/documents/investors/2011/2011jun30_lbg_strategic_review_maf.pdf), have allowed me to see first hand what the optimisations of customer journeys can do for both a service provider and for the end customer.My ultimate goal is to try to make each and every company I deal with optimise their customer journeys and interactions and for each of them to achieve the business outcomes that they strive for and that is expected of them from their customers.
