- The lab combines genetic, biochemical, and behavioral techniques to understand the nature of aging-related diseases using the fruit fly (Drosophilia melanogaster) as a model system.- Performed general lab maintenance duties, maintained lab equipment, prepared process specimens, cleaned up after experiments and aided in the advancement of different projects throughout the lab through various lab procedures.- Developed a strong knowledge in a variety of lab safety procedures and types of lab equipment specific to this field.

- Under the Department of Rheumatology, the Michigan Medicine Scleroderma Program strives to develop effective therapies for scleroderma and its complications, and research the causes and mechanisms of the disease. This project specifically focuses on interstitial lung disease as a complication of systemic sclerosis (a sub-branch of scleroderma).- The objective of the project was to assess the prevalence of lung fibrosis in the presence of systemic sclerosis and to asses baseline characteristics that may influence ILD within patients.- Identified patients with both scleroderma and interstitial lung disease through medical records & 1:1 patient observation.- The study was limited to a retrospective chart review with data collected from the U-M electronic medical chart software, MiChart.- The normality of the data collected was analyzed utilizing parametric and non-parametric testing.- Performed data entry and statistical analysis to examine the demographic of ILD-Ssc through the use of the RedCap software. - Presented at the 2018 UROP Symposium and the Midwest Regional SACNAS Conference at University of Chicago.
