I am expected to skilfully underwrite International Casualty risks, generate profitable premium and develop internal, broker and third party relationships in line with business plan.Territorial focus is predominantly in Australia, Canada and Italy. I am entrusted with significant authority for both new and renewal business and also have the opportunity to work on large, complex commercial accounts.I have strong experience in delegated authority business and have a proven track record of developing key relationships and expanding business potential. In this area I deal with day to day referrals and have developed rapidly to be seen as a key point of contact within the team for coverholders and brokers. I manage wording, internal compliance and regulatory reviews ensuring Lloyd’s requirements are fulfilled. Given my experience in the claims area I am seen as an important link between the underwriting and claims function, assisting with process development and implementing changes to drive efficiency such as the development of a claims pre-renewal pack.My experience in Underwriting has not only developed my technical skills in the business, but, has also given me a much broader knowledge on the business and the way in which different functions are required to operate and interact to achieve business objectives.

The role involves handling international casualty insurance claims arising from the casualty book of business. The role involves interaction with many areas of the business such as underwriters and actuaries as well as externally with brokers, legal representatives, experts, TPA’s and loss adjusters appointed to service clients.The role requires the management of claims usually from the point of first notification through to settlement reviewing policy coverage, legal liability and quantum continuously to ensure that the correct result is achieved on the claim to the satisfaction of all parties involved and in accordance with the principles and practices of the company.A large part of the role relates to binder management across a number of territories such as Canada and Italy. This involves monitoring of claims being handled within delegated authorities, review and handling of claims referred which fall outside of the TPA’s delegated authority and regular monitoring/audit, management information reporting, fund management and ensuring relevant TPA agreements are in place.The role has provided the opportunity to handle some significant losses in many territories such as the US which has required for direct negotiation with opposing Counsel and attendance at mediations where such individual claims require. The role also sees Claims adjusters support underwriters in preparation for, and attendance of client meetings to show the strength of the claims function and the high level service that the claims function offers, with this seen as a key differentiator between ourselves and other insurers within the market. As part of the role it is important to keep up to date with legal developments and practices within the varied jurisdictions that we operate. I was selected as the Catlin representative to attend to LMA ‘Living with US Litigation’ Course which took place in New York during May 2015.
