in the summer of 2016, i get to known that Euronext (that I knew from the news) was going to open a software development center in Porto and... why not? learn a new business, working in a multicultural environment and take part of that project from the beginning. applied. get the job.after a few weeks on boarding (yes, we went to Paris), i was working on UTP, the Universal Trading Platform (and the surrounding applications) for Warsaw Stock Exchange, making some adjustments for the platform to be MiFIDII compliant.after the Warsaw project, i have worked also on other UTP-based solutions for some Multilateral Trading Facilities and even setup a new one based on UTP.now i am working on OPTIQ Platform, helping to it setup for some middle east and northern africa clients.

after nearly a 6 months gap, i had the chance to work on as consultant for Aubay Portugal, placed in a company developing a new version of a POS for one of the major retailer in Portugal.it has been a short but great experience, developing software in C/C++ for a business that i have never worked.

on the beginning of the year 2016, me and some coworkers were surprised by cuts on expenses at the video/music streaming company we worked for and we were dismissed.so, while actively searching for work, i started learning some web stuff, node.js and javascript frameworks; that side project that i have never had time to start seems a good idea during these days...

before the summer of 2014, i have been approached by a former K2C colleague that was embracing a project of leading a development team based in Maia, near by Porto, for a music and video streaming service with clients in Portugal (Meo Music), Africa (Airtel on Nigeria) and Middle East (Sultn on Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait).she challenged my C/C++ skills to develop custom modules for the nginx web server, the backbone of the streaming service.since i like (some) music a lot, i took the chance to be around the three offspring some more time working at a much lower commute distance and start to learn the nginx web server configuration directives and administration tools.i also developed and maintained the custom C++ modules that were already in place, developed new ones and support the service, solving issues from clients coming through the support and quality team.in order to respond to an increasing demand on music and video streaming and on catalog data and serve some new products that were being built at the company, i have developed some more nginx modules now in C and a also C library to create and use memory mapped files with music multi-country and multi-language catalog data.

i started this new challenge in a team setup to make a product, xDRBroker, from the mediation solution acquired to K2C.so we start to evolve the solution towards the company standard documentation, developing and stabilize the code and support the sales team.after that, i was assigned to the data retention product, SEARCH (C/C++/Java), to solve some long lasting issues identified by the support team and increment performance.taking advantage of my experience in the billing solutions developed while working at K2C, i enter a project that aimed to update a rating validation module (Java, Oracle) for the revenue assurance star product of the company, RAID.in the way, a new module was also developed, a billing validation one. i have take a big dive in to the "kingdom of names" (Java and OO)...the first integration of these two modules took place in Czech Republic for Vodafone CZ; i went there a few weeks for requirements elicitation, developed the integration back home and go there again to production roll-out.

after several maintenance projects for the billing solution i was chosen to lead that new developments and also the support for the billing solution, dealing with all the client communications and manage small teams setup for the job.in this period we also developed for HP Portugal, a Perl module to manage the inventory of the radio network, DIMETRA, for the SIRESP (Sistema Integrado de Redes de Emergência e Segurança de Portugal) project.one of the last and challenging projects that i have been involved was the setup of a software developing process that lead to the CMMi-DEV1.2 certification on level 2 of maturity.i have managed the project, deal with the certification consultants, developed the process and finally integrate the SCAMPI evaluation team.then, the business unit were sold to WeDo Technologies and the team it was proposed to transit to the acquiring company. i accepted, and after almost ten years i embraced a new challenge...

i came across K2C in 2001 through an university roommate that work for them and was leaving. he has referenced me and so i meet the owner and start working on an experimental base.i start learning Perl and Korn Shell and then developing some code validation tools.we setup a standard for C, Perl and ksh code and the tools validate and help developers to adhere to the standard.at the beginning of 2002 i signed a contract with K2C and start working on a project for Optimus (a national telco company, now NOS), B2P - Billing To Paper, that is a solution part of the telco company billing chain.the solution developed in C, Oracle Pro*C with ksh and Perl code generators, receives the billing data from a billing management system and delivers that data suitable for consumption by the several systems, including the finishing system, data warehouse, electronic billing system and others.meanwhile i finally finished my licentiate degree.another project i worked in was a solution to integrate in a database all the data that comes from B2P, that was then processed by the data warehouse of the telco company.through all this time i work also as team member in other projects namely for the mediation solution , FOCA - Flexible Optimus Call Collection Application, also on that telco company.

just before the summer holidays in 2001, i received a call from temporary work agency, referenced by a colleague, asking if i was interested in working at ERI in the GeoEDP project, a GIS for the higher, medium and lower voltage transmission networks, with detection, attributes collection, georeferecing and GIS loading.and yes, i took the opportunity and for two months in the summer i was carrying a strange GPS device through the city of Vila Nova de Gaia referencing power transformation stations and medium and high voltage towers.

in march 2001, i was challenged by the council chairman of my home village to take part of the "Censos 2001", the national census held in Portugal.i accepted the challenge (you can't say no to the authority!) and spent two months interviewing all the nice people that i knew since a child and collecting, validate and verify the collected data to be delivered to the INE, the national census and statistics bureau.
