As a large foundry with increasing electrical demands, the old electrical feeds began showing limitations within the plant. I was able to assist with the management of the electrical upgrade project. The responsibilities of this included communicating with an external engineering firm to ensure the smooth progress of the project. Additionally, I was able to review some of the budget constraints set forth by the initial capital request.

The work completed during this CO-OP experience is a continuation of the project I started during the previous summer (5/2018-8/2018). The goal of my main project was to explore options and implement a method to automate one of the quality tests performed on higher risk parts such as brake components. After researching different solutions such as gantries and custom options, I determined that purchasing a six-axis robot arm would provide the best value to the company. It was then my responsibility to work with several internal and external groups to design supporting structures and equipment. This process will be implemented in December of 2019. During this project, I was able to learn about the budgeting/accounting portion of project management, as well as explore possibilities with robotics through experimentation with ABB's Robot Studio.

During this internship, my primary responsibility was to complete the work mandated through an OSHA audit of below the hook lifting devices. As an engineer, I was responsible for creating 3d models of each hook, performing stress analysis, and technical drawings to begin fabrication. After fabrication, each hook underwent a load verification test before use in production.

As a Co-op class through Peshtigo High School, I was employed at Waupaca Foundry preforming different certifications and inspections on parts. This included reading part blueprints, and using a Portage Layout Machine to inspect the parts, usually for wear. This opportunity allowed me to learn more about the engineering field and gain general work ethic.
