• Network Security Consultant/SME• UNIX specialist• Communications/Network EngineeringBuilding on my 9 years of UNIX system administration experience, and firewall knowledge, I joined the Communications Engineering team at EDS and established myself as a Network Security Subject Matter Expert (SME).I progressed to lead Service Offering (SO) Engineer for Firewall (Perimeter Security) Services and completed a major project to develop SO documentation and testing for the EDS Authenticated (Gauntlet) Firewall Service. The sole Gauntlet for UNIX Firewall Service to be deployed by EDS world-wide. As the SO Engineer I developed all technical documentation, cost models and marketing material.I provided continuing Engineering services for production firewalls (totalling 12), including asset management, solution design and vendor management. EDS customers include the CBA, ATO and South Australian Government (SAG) accounts (and Westpac, Integral Energy, Detroit Diesel, IDC (ninemsn)).My engineering area of specialisation was Network Security which incorporated firewall technology, VPN, CAs and Content Vectoring. Responsibilities Faculty Computing Officer Developer - Computer Aided LearningAchievementsI accepted the newly created Faculty Computing Officer position in 1992, the position was created by the Faculty to plan and implement a network that would ultimately encompass all 25 departments/areas spanning multiple sites. Together with the IT Division I successfully developed a network topology & infrastructure to form the Medicine Network. The network comprises over 200 Workstations, 3 AppleTalk routers (Webster MultiPort Gateways), one Netware 3.11 server (250 PC user licence & 100 Netware for Macintosh user licence), several AppleShare 3 servers, a Sun SPARC II and 2 ISDN connections (Queen Elizabeth Hospital & Women’s and Children’s Hospital). The Faculty employs over 300 direct staff and incorporates an additional 700 Affiliated Academics and Researchers, all are entitled to Computing support/resources.As the Computer Officer for the Faculty I was responsible for the continued management and administration of the network. Including the configuration of all network routers (i.e.: MultiGates), installing of Ethernet NICs, IP number allocations, network application software installations and user-support/training.The Medicine Network is the largest mixed PC/Macintosh network in the University and I have been responsible for its successful delivery, maintenance and continued expansion. Due to limited funding in the Faculty, I was solely charged with network management and administration. Only my in-depth experience of workstation (PC/Macintosh) management and integration via modern inter-networking made the task manageable.
