Helping to lead DQC’s work to advocate for improved integration of postsecondary and workforce data into state longitudinal data systems, and to improve the policy, access, and use of this data to create equitable educational and career outcomes.

Advocating for equitable access to higher education, and to protect students from predatory programs. Assess and review higher education policy at both the state and federal level, with an expertise in California education policy. Research and draft reports, factsheets, blog posts, and other materials in support of higher education accountability policy. Coordinate a coalition of student, veteran, civil rights, and consumer advocates; and curate policy agendas, draft regulatory comments and legislative letters, and conduct outreach on behalf of the coalition. Currently leading organizational efforts to create and support of 7 bills seeking to curb predatory practices and protect students at for-profit institutions. Cultivate relationships with key officials in the legislature, Governor’s office, state oversight agencies, and policy organizations in order to advocate on behalf of students.

Advocated for access to affordable, high-quality health care on both state and national level. Conducted research and analysis in order to lobby to defend the Affordable Care Act and the consumer protections it created. Managed social media presence for the California health team, and conducted outreach to both consumers and government officials through social media campaigns. Monitored legislation nationwide, and provided support to advocates working on the ground in other states. Responsible for presenting the “human face” of policy issues by vetting and curating personal stories from consumers. Authored a policy report analyzing issues within the air ambulance industry and providing recommendations for consumer protections, and conducted outreach to Congressional and regulatory officials nationwide. Managed several interns, and oversaw their work product.

Advocated on behalf of students of students victimized by for-profit higher education institutions. Coordinated a coalition of student and consumer advocates, and conducted advocacy on behalf of the coalition, including: drafting regulatory comments, Public Record Act requests, Writs of Mandamus, letters of support or opposition for legislation, and outreach and fundraising materials. Created engaging social media content to raise awareness of issues and served as media contact for legislation. Supported legislation in 2015 to fund legal aid for the 13,000 students affected by the Corinthian Colleges closure. Met with key officials in the legislature and Governor’s office in order to advocate on behalf of students. Coordinated with key stakeholders, to identify appropriate mechanisms for implementing policies. Supervised and mentored summer law clerks.

Conducted research and advocacy on policy issues such as education, health care, and employment for young adults. Assessed the policy implications of state bills, and advised the organization on next steps. Created factsheets on access to healthcare for persons within the criminal justice system, and on expunging a criminal record in California. Represented the organization at the 2014 Millennial State Economic Summit and the Student Senate for California Community Colleges’ Fall 2014 General Assembly. Contributed to statewide planning efforts for implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and participated in educational outreach and social-media campaigns.

Participated in year-long Community and Economic Development Clinic, providing services to low income and underrepresented clients. Under the supervision of law school professors, worked one-on-one with clients in the local community. Coordinated with public policy students to provide comprehensive services to low income clients seeking to public funding for cultural events.

In law school, I sought out opportunities to continue my work with public interest efforts, while developing legal skills that I will need to be an effective public advocate. During my first year, I volunteered with OneJustice, and went on a mobile legal aid tour of San Luis Obispo County offering legal services to the area’s underserved migrant and immigrant populations. I worked for the Alternate Defender during my 1L summer, and spent valuable time both in the courtroom and researching and writing under experienced trial attorneys. During 2L I volunteered with the OC Public Defender's New Leaf expungement project. I worked as a Legal Clerk for Young Invincibles during my 2L summer, and was able to do policy and outreach work on issues such as higher education, jobs, and health care. In my third year, I was privileged enough to work for the Community and Economic Development clinic, and performed a research project on the gentrification of Downtown Santa Ana.

Assisted with legal and policy work for national organization, representing the interests of young adults. Coordinated with community and political leaders to influence state and national policy on healthcare, higher education, and jobs. Participated in state-wide planning efforts for the Affordable Care Act implementation in California, and contributed to educational outreach and social-media campaigns.

Assisted with research, trial preparation, writing, and filing documents with court and agency offices. Responsible for determining precedential case law and composing trial argument. Attended trial with staff attorneys, sat at counsel table, and took notes on proceedings. Helped develop trial materials, and contributed to strategy meetings.

Collected and analyzed party demographics. Coordinated community outreach efforts and an academically focused Get Out the Vote campaign. Organized community volunteer efforts.

Organized, planned, and orchestrated countywide support rallies and Get Out the Vote efforts. Responsible for the Academic Outreach Program, and personally visited Orange County campuses to educate and motivate young voters.

Developed lesson plans, assigned and graded speech outlines, related papers, and speeches for Introduction to Oral Communication course. Collected and compiled teaching and testing data to maintain Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA) accountability. Assisted Director of Oral Communication program with GTA and student communication, and the management of fellow GTAs. Assisted with weekly staff meetings.
