My practice centers around drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various agreements, including technology, vendor, construction and real estate agreements. I provide legal counsel, review, advice and direction to internal customers and management vertically and horizontally throughout the FedEx Freight network spanning the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. When structuring, negotiating, drafting, and reviewing legal documents related to proposed transactions, I aim to ensure maximum profitability to the company, while maintaining minimum risk. I participate in the planning phase of various company products, services and projects and assist in forecasting a proposed course of action which accomplishes the company’s goals within legal parameters. I review company policies and procedures as assigned and provide legal advice as to their compliance with applicable laws.

I handled multifaceted transactional matters for business entities and individuals. I advised clients on entity formation, draft formation documents, and form entities accordingly. Additionally, I represented individuals, business, and lenders in commercial, residential, and large multi-property real estate closings. Before concentrating on transactional matters, I litigated cases primarily in the areas of employment, copyright, trademark, domestic relations, and appellate law.

I conducted research and analysis on multidimensional issues in criminal, civil, chancery, and administrative cases. I also drafted and revised opinions for cases on numerous areas of local, state, and federal laws, including zoning regulations, workers compensation, banking regulations, premises liability, contracts, Mississippi Tort Claims Act, domestic relations, and criminal sentencing claims . I also managed an extensive caseload completing on average one opinion every ten days to ensure timely disposition of cases. My position enabled me to interface with judges, clerks, and administration to ensure consistency in cases.In addition to clerking for Chief Judge Lee, I served as interim clerk from May to July of 2012, for Associate Justice Randy G. Pierce of the Mississippi Supreme Court, conducting similar work as with Chief Judge Lee.

I instructed students on the mechanics of legal writing, including analytical reasoning, factual analysis, and distinguishing authority. I also instructed students on appellate oral argument skills and trial skills and strategy. I educated students on the substantive law at issue in the memoranda and motions assignments, ranging from age discrimination to the constitutionality of a state adoption statute. Additionally, I provided one-on-one assistance and instruction to students who are struggling academically.

I coached and advised student advocates competing in national trial and appellate competitions focusing on both criminal and civil matters, including right to assemble, freedom of religion, employment issues and immigration, and compliance with federal organ-donations laws. - National Finalist 2010, National Quarterfinalist 2012, Peter J. I provided state habeas-corpus representation in civil court at the trial and appellate levels for indigent clients on death row. I formulated and drafted motions and supporting memoranda to the Mississippi Supreme Court, as well as petitions for writ of certiorari and motions for a stay of execution to the Supreme Court of the United States. I also litigated client-access issues in hearings before multiple Mississippi circuit courts. Additionally, I coordinated mitigation investigations and managed multiple investigators, psychiatrists, and psychologists, ensuringe that all possible mitigation claims were explored.

As a clerk, I effectively drafted memoranda and opinions on complex cases, including issues regarding elections, legal malpractice, and the death penalty. I researched and synthesized numerous issues in civil, criminal, and chancery cases. I provided analysis and recommendations relating to petitions for writ of certiorari, petitions for rehearing, and requests for oral argument, and collaborated with all justices, law clerks, and central legal staff to ensure a consistent analysis and outcome of cases. My tenure with Chief Justice Smith ended after he lost his bid for reelection.
