A Cure In Sight is a 501(c)(3) organization that strives to raise awareness about ocular melanoma in both the patient and caregiver communities and provide direct patient assistance. Since OM is a rare disease, it is sometimes missed or misdiagnosed by front-line caregivers, and poorly understood by patients who have a very short timeframe to make vital decisions about treatment -- often bewildered by complex biology they are not equipped to understand. As a medical board member (and patient) Andrew is uniquely positioned to help guide A Cure In Sight improve the patient journey as it prepares informational materials for patients and caregivers or assistance to researchers in the OM field.

Providing information architecture and user experience design consulting services to clients in the US and Europe, in industries including the life sciences, health IT, and human resources. A long-time TED fan, Andrew had the opportunity to work on a project that was presented at TED Global 2012 by John Wilbanks, in Edinburgh, Scotland. That experience led him to seek a TEDx license for a local event designed to give a global audience to local thinkers and doers, and to create dialog with local decisionmakers and community leaders about “ideas worth spreading." The first annual TEDxLewisburg was presented on June 22, 2013 at Lewisburg's beautiful Carnegie Hall, and was a rousing success. Andrew serves as 5AM's subject matter expert on major product releases for 5AM's largest commercial client - Life Technologies / Ion Torrent. He and his team establish UX and IA best practices and policy as part of 5AM's Glassbox software development methodology. Thanks to his unique cross-disciplinary background, Andrew has provided information architecture support to 5AM’s client projects, and assists in setting 5AM’s direction in matters of information architecture, usability and user experience design.Project Management and Technical LeadershipA Certified Scrum Master, Andrew has served as project manager on the latest release of The Surgeon General’s “My Family Health Portrait” tool (https://familyhistory.hhs.gov/), and he served as Technical Lead at the Translational Genomics Research Institute’s In Silico Research Center of Excellence. Winner of the Nov. 2011 Lean Startup Machine DC Competition and Top Ten Finalist at Distilled Intelligence 2.0, Genomic Arts is innovating how the public engages with the brave new world of genomic information. Andrew created "23andMii" - Genomic Arts' first mashup of personal genomics and video-game avatars, using molecular photofitting techniques to transform 23andMe variant data into Nintendo Wii Mii characters. 23andMii was presented at the 2012 Genomes-Environments-Traits (GET) Conference at Harvard University. The technology was further developed in conjunction with Life Technologies for use with the Personal Genome Machine sequencer aboard the Ion Bus.

Andrew delivered the guest lecture on genomics and personalized medicine to second-year students.

Building on his experience at CareerBuilder.com, Market10/JobFox.com and Presidio Studios, Andrew provided user interface design, information architecture, and usability consulting on a contract basis to clients throughout the US, managing creative and engineering professionals working together to produce world-class solutions for public companies and venture-funded start-ups. He provided creative direction and translated the client's vision into practical information architecture. Andrew has provided IA/UX consulting in project domains as diverse as e-retail, electronic health records management, and public transit.

Andrew was tapped once again by online career guru Rob McGovern to join the startup team at industry game-changer Market10 (now called JobFox.com). Andrew was on the founding product specification team and provided all of the initial product information architecture at both the site and page levels. Andrew left Market10 after beta to provide IT assistance to the Red Cross during the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

Andrew co-founded Presidio Studios in his adopted hometown of Lewisburg, WV. Presidio provides interactive media consulting and advertising design to small-to-medium-sized businesses throughout the region. While at Presidio, Andrew handled all of the technical aspects of client multimedia projects, including an award-winning tourism website and an interactive virtual-reality CD-ROM for the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Andrew was tapped by CareerBuilder founders Rob McGovern and Jim Winchester to be part of the startup "tiger team." He built and led the Application Development team within CareerBuilder's Engineering department. Andrew's team built all of the public-facing user interface for CareerBuilder's award-winning and industry-defining online career site, from launch through CareerBuilder's IPO and beyond. Andrew was personally responsible for the information architecture and usability engineering of each version of CareerBuilder's suite of sites during his tenure. Andrew's team also handled all affiliate customization for CareerBuilder's partner career sites, including MSN, ESPN, and Black Entertainment Television.

Compass Point produced the industry's first visual C++ development environment (a year or so ahead of Microsoft). In addition to development and marketing of C++ programming tools, Compass Point also operated a successful software consulting business whose clients included Arthur D. Little, The US Postal Service, The Bureau of National Affairs / BNA Software, and The Executive Office of the President of the United States. Andrew co-founded Compass Point with Brian Farmer, and served as product manager for Compass Point's lead product, application::ctor. Andrew also managed and worked hands-on in consulting projects on-site with Compass Point's clients.

Andrew was brought in to assist the University in productizing its academic knowledge as commercial software, where he established commercial software engineering practices such as defect tracking, version management, quality assurance, technical documentation and requirements analysis, and code walkthroughs. He oversaw software development for MS-Windows, OS/2, UNIX, MS-DOS, and Apple Macintosh platforms, leading a team of developers with diverse talents, including GIS, artificial intelligence, and physics simulation. He also became a certified Apple Macintosh technical trainer, helped coordinate a developer training joint venture between the University and Apple Computer and conducted official Apple developer training on-campus.

Andrew was a founding employee of Oracle Corporation’s systems-integration subsidiary. He participated in proposal authoring and live test demos for major government and commercial project bids. He engaged in a wide variety of systems integration tasks ranging from system procurement and assembly to peripheral device integration and software development. He developed user-interface software and took leadership role in user interface specification on a variety of platforms, including Microsoft Windows, IBM OS/2 Presentation Manager, and X-Windows and OSF/MOTIF on Interactive UNIX. Wrote UNIX device drivers, socket-level TCP/IP networking code, and raster image processing software.

• Hired directly out of the American University Audio Technology program, Andrew was given an empty room and a budget – and asked to build a world-class electronic music production suite. Worked with the studio technical staff and architect to build out Studio D and specify and order equipment. Then ran the studio for two years, catering to clients in electronic music, audio-for-video layback and film score composition. • Developed and taught Omega’s first Electronic Music and Sound Synthesis curriculum, through the Omega School of Recording Arts and Sciences. Continued to teach these courses for another four years after leaving the studio full-time, and these curricula are still used in updated form to this day at Omega. Andrew’s students included legendary electronic musician and producer Brian “bt” Transeau, who went on to define the Trance genre, and Robert “Syke Dyke” Reed and James Avery of Trouble Funk, pioneers of DC’s Go Go music scene and co-producers of 2 Live Crew’s seminal double-platinum hip-hop album “As Nasty as They Wanna Be” (on which Andrew served as an assistant engineer to Mr. Avery).
