During my internship, I met skilled engineering experts and learned about:- the day-to-day operations that took place at the terminal- the workflows and operational procedures that were implemented by Royal Vopak across all terminals internationally.- hazard classification and how it dictates the implementation of electrical instrumentation and devices in the field.- I gained knowledge about preventive and corrective maintenance and its essential role in preserving the operational reliability of diverse field-installed components and devices, encompassing electrical, mechanical, and safety systems. I also participated in many such activities that were performed on power systems as well as electronic instruments.- I learned about the distributed control system and its integration with all the process equipment and instruments to provide supervisory control and monitoring from a central control room. I also attended a workshop on the subject, giving me a detailed look at the whole architecture.- I also got the opportunity to work with various kinds of transmitters and indicators, including workshops and field training lessons from engineering technicians. The two projects I was overlooking, both dealt with sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of the terminal by 12 Tons. The first project, was developing a centralized system with integration to the terminal DCS for remote monitoring and control of the lights on the terminal.The second project was an occupancy-based lighting system for areas with limited movement such as transformer and distribution rooms.
