Additionally, I supported the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a 30-member council charged with identifying and recommending solutions directly to the Commerce Secretary on issues critical to driving the innovation economy.• Under the guidance of the OIE Director, I led and coordinated a six-person team to support the deployment and management of $57 million in federal grant funding for 140 accelerator, incubator and early-stage seed programs across 42 U.S. states. • Over the course of four years, I worked on streamlining the operational process which included training regional staff, leading the transition to a new grants management IT system, working on communication strategies and outreach, and conducting stakeholder feedback sessions. Through my work, I was able to decrease the application processing time from 150 to 120 days.• I developed and later improved the methods for programmatic and financial data collection. Furthermore, I was responsible for tracking and analyzing programmatic metrics for all projects in order to ensure projects were achieving the hoped-for results. As the only federal government agency focused exclusively on economic development, EDA plays a critical role in facilitating regional economic development efforts through financial assistance and capacity building to distressed communities. • As the project lead, I was responsible for supervising and coordinating a 12-person team to conduct annual internal audit reviews ensuring programmatic and financial compliance with government grant regulations. In addition, as the audit liaison, I was responsible for facilitating and communicating information requests between external auditors and program offices. This included assisting management with review of and response to audit findings and recommendations. These efforts resulted in increased transparency, and the implementation of stronger internal controls and agency-wide process improvements. • A primary part of my work focused on the annual budget preparation and ongoing budget monitoring. These duties ranged from tracking project pipeline and burn rate to ensure sufficient funding, troubleshooting as issues arose, and developing budget-related briefers, communications materials, and presentations for the Department, Congress, and the public. • I played a key role in the transition of all accounting functions from EDA’s in-house office to a centralized accounting office, a mandate by the Commerce Department.
