When I was little, my mother always told me, "We have to care about people. We wouldn't have been put on this Earth with others if we weren't." She led by example, from frequently collecting donations for charities to volunteering at my old elementary school, and inspired me to do the same. I began supervising children's programs at our mosque, joined Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Service & Leadership, and dedicated myself to service to my community. This passion grew after graduating from George Washington University in 2021, where my neuroscience and linguistics courses taught me how interlinked one's neurologic state is with a community's social structure. Through learning about post-stroke depression that families do not know to expect and job markets that are unaccommodating to autistic employees, I realized the lack of cross-cultural understanding surrounding brain disorders has deepened socioeconomic inequalities and weakened access to affordable healthcare.I hope to use my academic and voluntary experiences to become a physician. I want to research how the brain and society are related, potentially specializing in neurology or psychiatry. My goal is to develop empathetic and comprehensive treatments for my future patients so I can work to reduce the stigma of brain disorders and tailor care for each community I may serve.
