Afolabi is a graduate of Microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University. He is a development practitioner and non-profit manager of over 15 years. He is a co-founder of Festus Fajemilo Foundation, a pioneer non-profit organization that advocates for and promotes the rights of people living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus in Nigeria. The organization is the initiative of Afolabi and his wife as a result of the experience they went through in the first two years of their 17-year-old son diagnosed of hydrocephalus (excessive accumulation of brain water within the cavities of the brain) at the age of two months. Afolabi has been source of inspiration for many families in Nigeria and other African countries. This earned him the first Community Network Leader (international) of the Hydrocephalus Association in United States. Based on his achievements in taking initiatives that address the public health issue of birth defects, Afolabi won the award of Commonwealth Fellowship in 2015 that afforded him to learn more about non-profit management with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Information Networking Equality (Shine) in the United Kingdom for 3 months.Afolabi has led a good number of successful grant-funded projects including health, education, livelihood with tangible impacts on target beneficiaries.
