It was founded in 1998 by the late Dr. Gregory Fowler, Alex Fowler, and Dr. Michael Garland in Oregon, and in 2008 it became a nonprofit affiliate of Portland State University. geneforum.org was supported by grants from Rose Tucker Charitable Trust, Collins Medical Trust, DOE, and Pew Center for Civic Journalism.
