I center everything I do around the core values of honesty, dignity, and integrity. Whether teaching English to non-native speakers, advocating for democratic reform, or helping two sides resolve a conflict, I approach my work through these values, recognizing that they are the foundation of trust.I'm an even-keeled generalist, always alert to opportunities to advance my organization’s vision. In my 17 years as an educator, this looked like seizing extracurricular opportunities for my students, rebuilding supposedly dead computers to bridge the digital divide, and adding endorsements to teach additional subjects. I began as an ESL teacher and evolved into a math teacher on the path toward school administration. What a ride.In the democracy reform space, I transitioned an issue campaign win into a Program Director role. Though brief, this role gave me the chance to spread my wings in advocacy and training. I developed a voter education program that left participants with a robust understanding of ranked choice voting. Now, as a UniServ Director with the Tennessee Education Association, I am constantly pursuing new ways to advance our vision of Great Public Schools. From redesigning association representative (shop steward) trainings to fostering meaningful member engagement through classic organizing, I refuse to sit idly by while attacks on public education intensify.
