Dr Sheila Ochugboju is the Executive Director of Alliance for Science, a Global Science Communication initiative focused on creating an enabling environment for uptake of scientific technologies and innovations. The Alliance has a strategic presence in Cornell University to serve the partners in the Global North and in Dhaka with Farming Futures Bangladesh drive initiatives across Asia and a Global South Hub in Nairobi where the communications team is based to promote south-south collaborations across Africa and Latin America.Sheila trained as a research scientist with a Ph.D in Biochemistry from London University, followed by a PostDoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oxford, focused on genetically modified viruses. In 2009, she was included in the first group of 20 Inaugural TED Fellows, TED (which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, and Design”) is a global brand which promotes extraordinary thinking and TED Talks have audiences of over 1 billion views. In 2016 she was honoured with the Wings World Quest Foundation - Women of Discovery Award for Humanity.Sheila is a knowledge management and communication specialist, who trained as research scientist and international development for over 15 years. She has worked in senior management roles in Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria; with international think tanks, UN agencies (UNDP, UNEP, UNREDD+ and UNHabitat), multilateral institutions and philanthropic organizations across Europe, Africa and Asia.
