As a member of the microbiology team, I contribute to the development of a live biotherapeutic product derived from human gut bacteria. Key responsibilities and achievements include:-Established the BSL-2 Microbiology Lab: Set up a dedicated facility for cultivating anaerobic gut bacteria.-Managed BSL-2 lab activities and trained the microbiology team in anaerobic cultivation techniques.-Bacterial Strain Library: Created and managed in-house bacterial strain library, serving as the foundation for our live biotherapeutic product pipeline.-Developed and optimized lab-scale workflows for bacterial co-culturing and lyophilization, improving post-drying cell viability and diversity.-Project Management: Led screening projects for the bacterial strain library, including functional and metabolomics analyses.-Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinated experimental planning and project management, from lab setup to liaising with CDMO vendors.

My PhD research focuses on developing novel approaches for the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria from human and mouse gut microbiota, with an emphasis on expanding our understanding of microbial diversity. Key responsibilities and achievements include:-Isolation of Novel Gut Bacteria: Successfully isolated previously unknown gut bacteria from human and mouse samples, contributing to the understanding of microbiome diversity.-Innovative Cultivation Techniques: Developed a single-cell dispensing workflow using droplet-based microfluidics to enhance the cultivation of anaerobic bacteria.-Bacterial Collection Expansion: Expanded and curated our collection of mouse intestinal bacteria for further study.-Characterization of New Species: Identified, classified, and characterized novel bacterial strains, broadening the known gut microbiome landscape.-Optimization of Cultivation Methods: Explored and implemented size exclusion techniques and pre-treatment of fecal samples to improve the capture of previously uncultivated microbiota.-Project Supervision: Supervised Master's students, providing guidance in microbiological techniques, data analysis, and research methodologies.-Bacterial Collection Management: Managed and maintained an in-house bacteria collection, ensuring accurate documentation and accessibility for ongoing research.-Scientific Communication: Presented research findings at international conferences, showcasing innovative cultivation methods and the importance of gut bacteria cultivation.Publications: Authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed articles in reputable scientific journals, contributing to the field of gut microbiota research.

Part of my PhD project (in collaboration with the micro scale bioengineering group) to investigate the feasibility of using PMDS-based microfludic chip for cultivation of gut bacteria.

Working as a multidisciplinary team, specifically under the raw material and quality Group. Role include: ▪ Conducting the evaluation of new and alternative raw materials; ▪ Liaising with raw material suppliers as well as external food testing laboratories; ▪ Performing QC testing & duties for the dry blending and wet blending sites;▪ Conducting shelf life evaluation/validation; ▪ Assisting QA Coordinator in the investigation of customer complaint; ▪ Assisting in the development of new products and re-development of existing products; ▪ Preparation of R&D samples as requested and required; ▪ Assisting in the retort validation.

Performing routine Quality Control testing for the eggs and value added egg products. ▪ Collecting and preparation of samples for microbiological testing,▪ Operating autoclaves,▪ Calibrating the instruments,▪ Validation of cleaning procedure/process,▪ Preparing media for microbiological testing,▪ Performing microbiological testing,▪ Conducting functional and chemical test on product,▪ Maintain environmental swabbing program,▪ Reading and reporting of results, and subsequent release of product.
