About Afshin Beheshti

My research is dedicated to exploring the intricate interplay of circulating miRNAs and mitochondria in the context of various diseases. I am particularly focused on unraveling how circulating miRNAs can serve as valuable biomarkers and potential therapeutic agents in combatting conditions such as cancer, COVID-19, long COVID, and the physiological effects of space biology.Currently, I am actively engaged in multiple projects, under my own at the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science at NASA Ames Research Center. These projects aim to identify countermeasures and enhance our biological understanding to mitigate the adverse effects of the space environment on living organisms. Simultaneously, I am involved in diverse initiatives addressing the multifaceted aspects of COVID-19 and long COVID. Furthermore, I am committed to advancing our knowledge of cancer biology, specifically exploring the application of miRNAs as both biomarkers and potential therapeutic interventions. Lastly, I involved in developing a personal AI assistant for the world to use!My expertise spans bioinformatics and systems biology, where I have successfully devised innovative experimental approaches to propel my research forward. Additionally, I possess extensive proficiency in imaging techniques, encompassing confocal, fluorescent, and light microscopy. My contributions extend to the development of novel imaging methodologies for live cell imaging and comprehensive image analysis.Driven by a passion for unconventional thinking, my overarching goal is to continually push the boundaries of conventional ideas and implement creative solutions. This approach is crucial in providing a more profound understanding of space biology and cancer development.
