Appointed by order of the Labour Court to rehabilitate the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC) back to a state of solvency and effective functioning.

Due to organisational restructuring, my portfolio was enlarged with three additional areas of responsibility; Employment Security, Councils & Agencies and Dispute Management & Prevention. Left to pursue different career opportunities.

Reported to the Director and served on the Executive Committee which was responsible for the management of the organisation. Responsible for providing leadership and guidance to support, promote and assist collective bargaining. Served as Chair of the Bid Evaluation Committee, Provident Fund Advisory Committee, Training Layoff Advisory Committee and the Strategy Committee. As the Chairperson of the Strategy Committee and EXCO member responsible for strategy and performance reporting and monitoring I had oversight over the development of all CCMA strategies including but not limited to the 5 – year performance strategy, the Annual Performance Plan as well as all departmental and regional plans. In respect of performance reporting and monitoring I had oversight over the establishment and management of all performance management and reporting in the organisation from the organisational scorecard to the departmental scorecards to the regional scorecards. In addition, I played a leading role in the management of strategic risks and the development of the organisation's risk appetite and tolerance framework.

Conducted the full range of CCMA process offerings including Pre-Conciliation, Conciliation, Con-Arb, Arbitration, Facilitation, In Limine and Rescission. Served as a Team leader on a special arbitration project conducted by the National Office in 2001. Worked on arbitration projects in Gauteng and Mpumalanga regions during 2001 and 2002. Developed and conducted a mediation technique training session in the KwaZulu Natal Office. Conducted research and investigations for the Office of the Director. Left to advance career within the organisation.

Reporting to a Divisional Manager who had responsibility for seven similar business units nationally. I managed a flooring wholesale operation employing thirty people. I was responsible for all operational aspects including Sales (field and tele-sales), Warehousing (receiving, stores and despatch), Accounting, Office and Human Resource Administration (salaries and wages administration, recruiting, labour relations). Interacted on an ongoing basis with developers, architects and contractors to promote specification of the company’s key products in major development projects. Left for career reasons.

Headhunted to this position. Reporting to the Managing Director, I was charged with the responsibility for all operations of an electronic components wholesaler with an annual turnover of Rm. 31 and a national staff complement of one hundred and twenty six. I was responsible for formulating and implementing strategy through a team of functional managers in the areas of Marketing and Sales, Purchasing, Administration, Credit Control, Inventory and Information Management. During my brief tenure, my most noteworthy achievement was the implementation of a formal revenue budgeting, recording and analysis system. Other achievements included automation of the payroll function, settling conditions of employment and improvements to the credit evaluation system. Resigned and relocated to Durban due to family health reasons.

Reported to the Chief Executive Officer and involved in all aspects of the bank’s marketing function. Responsible for promotion, new product development, advertising campaigns, public speaking, audio-visual presentations and staff training. Also involved in the direct selling of trade and asset finance to the corporate sector, credit evaluation facility reviews, feasibility studies and client liaison. Played a key role in strategic planning. In addition, I managed a project to prepare the bank’s new corporate head office. I developed various spreadsheet based applications for use by different departments of the bank including an instalment calculator for credit transactions, a conveyancing and bond costs calculator, financial statements analyser and an application for budgeting, recording and analysing the bank’s deposit inflows.
