As a Veterans Assistance Coordinator (VAC) I have the great pleasure in waking up every day and serving Minnesota Veterans and their families. I'm part of a small team of VACs that administer state programs to our state's Veterans and eligible dependents. I utilize specialized knowledge of federal and state legislation, and interpret legislation, relating to benefits for veterans and their dependents, other benefits available through human service agencies, and the symptoms and occupational consequences of diseases and disabilities.

Serve as a DOD liaison for Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) to coordinate military assistance to state and federal agencies and local governments during times of man-made and natural disasters. Main duties include:Coordinate resources as required, typically through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mission assignment process.Maintain effective communication between the DOD components, DOD, and other state and/or federal governmental agencies and nongovernmental organizations.Promote mutual understanding among various organizations tasked with providing and coordinating emergency support functions in civil emergency situations.Serve as a subject-matter expert on service-specific capabilities, limitations, and legal authorities.

Last assignment was under the 103rd Expeditionary Support Command as part of a four-man team of engineers who's mission is to deploy to forward locations both nationally and globally and establish operating locations for military and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in support of their missions. This includes managing civilian contracts and tasking subordinate engineer units to complete the necessary work required. I joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 2002 and in my 11+ years of service I've spent over two years serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. I have had the great honor of serving with some of the brightest individuals I know. My military career has afforded me the opportunity to tackle new challenges with every year of service. I have had the honor of fulfilling the positions of Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of Training, Forward Operations NCOIC, Company Intelligence Support Team NCOIC, Electronic Warfare Officer, Unit Movement Officer, and Squad Leader.
