I was trained in the use and maintenance of the Lachat flow injection analysis equipment. I regularly ran analysis using the Lachat QuickChem 8500 for ammonia, NOx and for several species of anions and cations using the ion chromatography module. I have also used Biowin for treatment process modeling particularly for my senior design project.I helped several project groups with their analysis and sampling needs. For example, I assisted with the chemical analysis of a nitrification/denitrification project. I was measuring the amount of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate in plant influent and effluent samples by using Lachat QuickChem 8500 to check the characteristics of the plant. I also learned to measure parameters such as alkalinity, pH, and total solids. Additionally, I have been helping with a glycerol optimization study at the Hunts Point WRRF. -

Engineering InternNova Consulting Apr 2017 - Sep 2017Miami, Fl, UsI interned at the Nova Consulting company where I examined existing water quality standards by using cost-effective combined sewage overflow (CSO) controls designed to reduce CSO volume and pollutants discharged into the East River and its tributaries. I monitored and collected CSO data, from different locations, measuring various aspects of CSO conditions such as dissolved oxygen, temperature, conductivity, salinity, and bacteria. I also evaluated green infrastructure options to understand the extent to which green infrastructure would provide benefits such as cost-effectiveness, overflow prevention, catching more rainfall by creating more bioswales and green roofs. This internship helped me understand how significant a rainstorm’s effects on NYC’s water quality is.
