My project was centred on the design of a novel microporous smart material, which housed the molecular machinery of protein synthesis, giving rise to a biologically active, protein-producing bioink. The resulting system was capable of osteogenesis stimulation, posing as a powerful technique in tissue engineering research and as a clinical tool for bone.

The aim of this research project was to quantify the co-localisation of difficult-to-express proteins with secretory pathway organelles, and thus determine the bottleneck of protein expression in mammalian cells. I gained extensive laboratory skills in molecular biology, transient transfections in both adherent (HEK) and suspension (CHO) cells.
