I'm passionate about using agile practices and team-building skills to help deliver software that meets the needs of clients and end-users. I enjoy leading teams of teams and building rapport across business units. As an Agile leadership veteran, I have written code for, and led development teams in: * Investment banking (BNP Paribas, Barclays Global Investors, RBS, UBS, HSBC and BAML) * Consultancy (Accenture) * Green Energy (Kiwi Power) * Real estate (Rightmove)A good carpenter builds many of their own tools. I enjoy being a part of software teams that automate and simplify as much as possible of their own work, so that they can focus on the truly hard (and interesting) problems. Even better, I like to be on software teams that automate repetitive tasks within their wider business, so that people can apply their expertise to the things that matter, not bureaucracy.Investment Banking domains I've worked in: * Equity derivatives * Trade capture * Fixed income * Credit risk * Operational risk * OTC Client ClearingKeywords that I enjoy (for the bots): * Agile/XP * Business analysis * Leadership, communication and planning * Agile project estimating and planning * Automated testing (TDD, CDCs, Executable Specs) * Scala, Elm, SQL, Python, Kotlin and a few other languages

Development ManagerKiwi Power Jul 2016 - Dec 2022Leader of Development Team - Hardware, Software and AnalysisI was brought in by the CTO to help build an Agile development team, capable of delivering new features quickly, often under tight commercial deadlines. At the same time, the product had to keep working and existing customers needed to receive a high quality of service.Kiwi Power transitioned all development on-shore shortly after I joined. From being the only developer, I helped grow the team to 30 people. I also acted as account manager for a number of key clients, and worked to improve business processes, such as those for on-site installations of our hardware.I'm proud of the excellent team we built, and of the expert technical help and services we provided to clients. Repeated due-diligence during investment rounds always showed the technology team to be a strength of the company, and auditors remarked favourably on the level of engagement of the team, the efficiency of processes we followed and the quality of the code that resulted.

Independent Consultant For Sylvan Consulting LtdRbs Nov 2009 - Jul 2010Gogarburn, GbThe Cremant project began life as a tactical system for managing counterparty credit risk for a small pool of a few hundred liquid names. The business requirements grew steadily, with a vision to manage all counterparty credit risk through Cremant. This required a new influx of developers to add strategic capabilities and quality to the system. Work included:* Introducing the idea of release planning, by breaking streams of work into stories and estimating these as a team at a pre-iteration meeting.* Adding a large number of types of automated tests to a system that had almost none (and those it did have weren't running anywhere)* Building a reconciliation engine to compare the thousands of daily output reports from pre-release environments with those on production -
