About M. Krishna Devarakonda

I have been cross-pollinating lessons in product/engineering agility between established companies (ARC: Agile Racecar, 2012) & startups (4WS: 4WeekStartup, 2005). I've been practicing "agility" from the early days of object-oriented analysis & design (1992). I first applied Agile engineering (XP) practices at BBC & Siemens (2003-2005).I founded & pivoted ridesharing/carpooling startups thru consumer (eCarpool, 1999-2001) & enterprise (RideStation, 2004-2008, US & India) strategies, turning dysfunctional global (US & India) teams hyper productive using Agile engineering (XP), Agile Project Management (Scrum) & Agile product management & strategy with User Stories, developing the ability to create customized high-fidelity prototypes on-demand in days, and enabling sales & market/investor validation through multiple pivots in weeks. In mid-2006, I decided to pivot back RideStation to a consumer network - away from VC-forced enterprise model in 2000 (selling carpool-as-a-service for employers), having validated learning in just 6 months, as the sole bootstrapping founder supported by a team of just two in India. Many of my VC funded competitors (2007 Goose, 2011 RideJoy) took as much as 6 years and $15 million in funding (2007 Zimride- precursor to Lyft) to reach the same conclusion, while others (Scoop) continue to flounder.I founded Agile Entrepreneurs (2005) to teach startup founders the "4WeekStartup (4WS)" principles- increasing Traction with a validated strategy every 4 weeks, and getting to Product/Market Fit & positive cash flow in as little as 3 months- with or without funding.I was on the Entrepreneur Committee, Board of Advisors of Silicon Valley Association of Startup Entrepreneurs (SVASE, 2007-2009), and contested a board seat of the Agile Alliance (2007).As an active Board Member of the non-profit Immigrants Support Network (ISN - 2000-2002), I contributed to the passage of several legislative & regulatory reforms for H-1B workers through the American Competitiveness in the 21st Century Act (AC21) in October 2000. "once Devarakonda latches on to an interest, he does not let go"-San Francisco Chronicle, 2001

"Make Your Own Mistakes, Learn From Mine!"I founded Agile Entrepreneurs (AE) as a collaborative network of founders of hi-tech product startups. AE is a trusted environment for them to share their mistakes & lessons learned with their fellow entrepreneurs, where I - Organize and moderate collaboration among 150 startup founders to resolve critical business issues. - Facilitate shared learning via status meetings (Founder Scrum), lessons (Learn by Osmosis), board meetings (strategic timeout), legal clinics, resource sharing & online tools. - Coach early-stage startups to help them get product validation in a week, traction in a month and product/market fit in as little as a quarter. - Teach (through seminars & workshops) the 4-Week Startup (4WS) method to MVP - turning infinitely vast vision into high quality, low cost, MVP in the shortest time with limited resources. I created the 4WeekStartup (4WS) program to help entrepreneurs ("Founder Core"), where I(a) coach them 1-on-1 on bootstrapping, with the goal: 7 days to user/customer Validation, 4 weeks to Traction, and as little as 3 months to Product/Market Fit; (b) provide them access to mentoring from successful bootstrapping entrepreneurs ("Useful Role Models") running profitable startups; and (c) help them build virtual teams of curated & founder-recommended shared resources that are either FREE ("Inner Circle" of Love) or paid ("Outer Orbit" of Money) on-demand professionals with maximum productivity/cost ratio. The Hire an Entrepreneur (HaE) program at Agile Entrepreneurs lets bootstrapping entrepreneurs manage their cash flow needs on their terms by connecting them with local employers & fellow agile entrepreneurs.---4WeekStartup, 4WS, 4Week Startup Bootstrapper, 4WS Bootstrapper, 4WeekStartup.Guru, HireAnEntrepreneur.com are all copyrighted names and property of Agile Entrepreneurs LLC
  • Agile Entrepreneurs
Agile Racecar Driver: Executive Coach For Product/Engineering Agility
Agile Entrepreneurs Nov 2005 - Present
    California, Us
Your Product Team is the Driver of a high-performance Racecar (Engineering Pipeline). The process team is the Pit-crew whose job is to minimize time in the pit - reduce process friction.I work with organizations of all sizes looking to improve the productivity and efficiency of their Product & Engineering processes by understanding the roles they play & the value they create, and then empowering the product & engineering organizations from top to bottom.Organizations of all sizes - even single founder startups with outsourced teams - become victims of silos that suffocate all productivity and passion out of them. The solution is simple, as is often the case - a single (virtual) source of truth that defines the boundaries of collaboration from top to bottom of an organization, optimized to reduce the lead time of the Product pipeline & the cycle time of the Engineering pipeline - with any process being measured by the amount of friction it creates or eliminates between the two pipelines.

We leveraged our experience as a web-based product startup to help other entrepreneurs and startups build their products rapidly, getting valuable customer feedback early. We worked with customers to define requirements as User Stories, then scheduling them into the short releases & iterations by balancing the engineering effort needed and the customer priority. Our process was designed to let entrepreneurs and startups respond to changing customer requirements and priorities at lightning speed with production quality code. And yet, we had the lowest total cost of development and the lowest per developer cost- guaranteed. You knew exactly how much your cost was going to be in advance- no ifs and buts about it. • Immigrants Support Network
    Board Member- Isn.Org
Immigrants Support Network May 2000 - Apr 2004
As a Board Member, my leadership of ISN in the SF Bay Area and rest of US became the model for how non-profit organizations can leverage the internet to succeed. We helped legal, hi-tech workers overcome the morass of visa laws and exploitative agencies through Congressional "lobbying", fund-raising, outreach to INS, DOJ, GAO, employers, and the media. I managed our mailing list and ISN.org, reaching 20,000 members and over 200,000 interested parties, getting extensive coverage in Newsweek, NY Times, WSJ, CNN, BBC Radio, NPR, CNBC, SJ Mercury News, SF Chronicle, local TV stations, and international media from UK, France, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and India. In March 2001, I got noted angel investor (of Exodus fame) and then President of TiE, Kanwal Rekhi to join our Board of Advisors. Together we began crafting a strategy to take ISN to the next level - until 9/11 changed everything. See http://bit.ly/americandream20 for a fairly accurate story in SF Chronicle. A documentary film crew followed me in 2001 as I led ISN during the economic downturn: http://www.film.com/movies/movies-on-demand-american-dream-2-0
