An Environmental Scientist with over 25 years experience in the mining industry. The coronavrius crisis helped bring an end to a wonderful 3 year period with Ambatovy nickel and cobalt operations in Madagascar, but now equally enthusiastic about the opportunity to live in Switzerland and lead Glencore's copper department efforts in the environmental and social sphere. His time as Regional Manager: Europe and Africa for Schlumberger Water Services was centered on managing and marketing the consultancy business rather than bringing any technical expertise to an excellent group of hydrologists, geohydrologists and geochemists. Prior to this he worked for Newmont's on the Nimba Iron Ore JV project in Guinea, West Africa. He gained public affairs experience as ICMM's Program Director: Environment, Health & Safety which included extensive stakeholder engagement and relationship building. He has wide ranging expertise in the sustainability disciplines including environmental management, environmental and social impact assessment, biodiversity, climate change, community development, village relocation and health & safety. He has senior management experience in a number of international mining companies (including De Beers, AngloGold Ashanti, Katanga Mining, BHP Billiton and Newmont) and experience across multiple commodities (including gold, diamond, copper & iron ore). From the shop-floor to senior management he has worked as a mine-based practitioner (9 years), senior corporate office manager (9 years), professional in the project development environment (4 years), and in sustainability consulting (4 years). Andrew has visited over 65 countries as well as having lived and worked internationally. He holds an M. Phil degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Cape Town and a B.Sc (Hons)(Zoology) from the University of Kwazulu Natal. Business training included the Global Executive Development Programme at the Univ. of Pretoria's Gordon Institute for Business Science and various on-the-job programs. He holds dual citizenship of both the UK and South Africa, thus enabling him to work almost anywhere that is needed.
